Carole has a natural talent for riding and is regarded as one of the best, but she begins to feel threatened when a new girl, Andrea, and her horse, Doc, come to Pine Hollow. Carole finds out that she will be competing against Andrea in an upcoming horse show and dedicates all of her free time to getting herself and her horse, Starlight, ready. When she learns that Veronica gave Andrea the wrong test in hopes that she would drop out, Carole is able to put her fears and jealousy aside and do the right thing by making sure Andrea knows about Veronica’s lie. Although Andrea ends up winning by one point, Carole is happy to come in second and realizes that she does have the talent to succeed.
